From The Desk Of The President

No, I remember "Duel" (1971), it was okay. It was basically Spielberg's thesis project at UCLA, but I can't watch Dennis Weaver for 90 minutes. I hated "McCloud," which was basically Clint Eastwood's "Coogan's Bluff" every couple of weeks on NBC's Sunday night Movie Mystery wheel along with "Columbo" and "MacMillan and Wife."

P.S. "Columbo" kicked ass.

Dick Clark is the patron of the awards show and he's still recovering from a stroke. None of you can give him a shout out, a thanks, a hello, or an acknowledgement?

Spoiled, ingrate punks.

Sincerely,

The President

Pat Morita, the original Arnold from "Happy Days," died.

Boo.

P.S. Did you know he spent time in a Japanese internment camp in Arizona during World War II?

You know, I never really got "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind." I mean, I like the way the film looks, whether it's the Panavision lenses or what I don't know, but I like that 1970's tall and fat wide-screen with just a little bit of wide-angle distortion. But I never liked the story, I never liked the acting, I hate Richard Dreyfuss standing around with his mouth open, I hate how these huge alien vessels speed around, brightly lit, and there is no wind and no reflected streaks of light, and while the sound is nicely mixed, I hate the sappy music. Really, I hate sappy, happy alien movies, but moreover, I think I just hate how popular this movie is.

The only Steven Spielberg movie is "Jaws." After that it's just crap. Endless blue-light-through-haze effects, Christ imagery, religious references, and emotional saccharine, it's all so nauseating.

Time to screen "Dirty Harry." Now that's a movie.

Re: Your coverage of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon that hit a light pole and injured two people.

Does that really qualify as a "tragedy"?

You're lucky if you can get to the grocer and back without getting hurt in New York, nevermind a parade of oversized balloons bonking down the street in 15 mph winds.

Let's cut the hype.

Signed,

The President
